The wind and hail didn't stop Granite City playing some great rugby at Ellon 7s tournament and progressing to the final. Probably partly due to the weather conditions Granite City wasn't at its most fluid in the first 2 games but as the weather improved so did Granite City's performances with the guys playing some great attacking rugby. Going into the final pool game against Highland we knew we would meet them again in the final regardless of the result, but in a fiercely contested game we came out 3-2 winners.
It was a slow start from Granite City in the final, with Highland capitalising on some handling errors to dominate possession and open up a 3 try lead. Their heads never went down and the fightback started with a try late in the first half before another 2 tries in the second half levelled the scores at 3-3 going into the final minute of the match, but with Granite City pushing for the winner Highland were able to gain possession and score a try in the dying seconds of the match to take the win.
Its disappointing that everyone's efforts didn't produce the win but the way we fought back in the final shows the character of the team and the players should be proud of their efforts.
