An optimistic squad headed to Huntly for the opening league fixture of our 24/25 campaign. The conditions were cold and wet, which set the tone for the afternoon. A slow start from Wanderers allowed Huntly to storm into a 12-point lead. Despite bossing territory, Huntly took advantage of poor handling in the wet to score two breakaway tries. Wanders began to keep things simpler and finally kept possession through the phases to score a first try of their own. It was a competitive game from then on. Both teams trading blows either side of halftime, with Wanderers keeping the visitors within 10 points. injuries took their toll and as Wanderers went down to 14 men after emptying the bench, Huntly scored the game's final try to end up with a flattering 50-33 win.

As we continue to develop, our focus will continue on securing ruck ball. Our ability to retain and recycle possession directly correlates to our ability to score points. Our handling let us down today, and as we head into autumn, we have to be ready to play in the wet.

On the positive side, when we did get it right, we looked very dangerous. 5 tries today from 5 different scorers and 4 of them converted. As we've seen in previous games, we get out what we put in. Hard work and application will solve a lot of the problems today and I am sure the boys will continue to work hard.

A good, competitive fixture, but not the result we wanted against an experienced side.
