Sunday saw the U15's travel the short distance to Deeside RFC in Banchory for a Friendly fixture.
Both teams were keen to to get a run out after the Christmas break to allow them to prepare for the Caledonia Cup competition starting the following weekend.
Unfortunately overnight sub-zero temperatures meant that on arrival at Banchory the pitch was judged too firm for a full contact match to proceed.
Both teams were still keen to have some sort of session, so a modified "Scragg" match was played to allow both sides to at least run through some moves and practice their attacking and defensive shapes on the pitch.
Whilst the lack of full contact was obviously frustrating for most, the modified rules did give the opportunity for both sides to practice rucking and despite a slippery ball and low winter sun there was also some good handling on display.
With minimal contact it was hard to assess either teams true abilities / performance and a 28 :28 draw was a fair reflection of both teams efforts.
Frustratingly toward the end of the match the pitch had softened up enough to allow the U16 match that followed to play full contact.
Thanks to Deeside RFC for hosting.
