18 Aberdeen Wanderers U16 players, with spectators, made the bus journey to Falkirk, getting delayed in the traffic heading to Hampden.
Arrived in wet and windy conditions, which plagued both teams throughout the match. The wind made kicking a challenge and lineouts were blowing off centre.
During the first half, Wanderers had a lot of possession, but handling errors and a strong Falkirk defence prevented us from scoring.
Falkirk took advantage of those errors and the wind on their back, to score 3 tries with 1 converted. First half 17-0 Falkirk.
Second half got off to a good start, with Number 8, Matthew Herbert powering over after 9 minutes. Nathan McGregor with the conversion.
Falkirk then scored another 2 tries, with 1 conversion, both coming from missed tackles in the back line.
With the light fading, both teams were on the end of high tackle yellow cards. Wanderers attack probed several times, only for handling errors to let us down.
Daniel Myles, Open side flanker, scored 3 minutes before the end, using great footwork to beat the defenders, and another conversion from Nathan.
Final Score - Falkirk 29, Wanderers 14.
Congratulations to Falkirk. A strong defense and capitalising on our mistakes made for a good game.
