Wands 43 - Moray/Huntly 20

The Wands started brightly on the Saltire pitch against Moray/Huntly today and were on the front foot from the kick off. STRUAN NICHOLSON got the wands off to a great start with a fine solo effort finding a gap in the opponents defence with WILLIAM BENNETT converting well. Moray/ Huntly responded well with a try to make it 7-5. KEIR KIDD who had an excellent game then took the ball in full flight and showed strong running to fend off some opposition tackles, and converted his own try to make it 14-5. The opposition then scored following some good rucking in the centre of the pitch. At the very end of the 1st period, hooker COLE MCKENZIE took the ball from William Bennett from the restart and picked a good line through the defence to run in an excellent try for a 19-10 lead at the 1st break.

The second period saw a flurry of excellent tries with STRUAN NICHOLSON scoring 3 with KEIR KIDD converting a difficult kick in fairly windy conditions. Wands were running well and Keir Kidds to perfectly time a ‘no-look’ offload to allow Struan Nicholson to score under the posts. Another tremendous line break from William Bennett managed to create space for Struan to run in his 3rd of the period. Wands led by 36-20 at the end of the 2nd period.

The 3rd period was the turn of the forwards to show real determination as the opponents came on strong and managed to stop several scores with some excellent tackles and pressure at the breakdowns. The highlight of the period was an excellent score from STRUAN NICHOLSON following Keir Kidd’s line break, with Cole McKenzie supporting to time an offload for the charging Struan Nicholson for a fine score to finish the match. The trusty boot of KEIR KIDD scored another conversion to cap a fine team performance from the wands with a final score of 43-20.
