Under 13 Lose at Ellon

GCC started well and looked very good in attack challenging a big Ellon side to tackle and counter-ruck. Then eventually Ellon regained possession and aided by some poor tackling by the visitors Ellon crossed the line for a try on the blindside right wing. In the same movement Arron hurt his knee and had to be replaced by Alex Carton. Shortly afterwards Finlay Buchan got hurt and had to be replaced by Calum Thomson. Ellon continued to score points due to GCC inability to maintain a cohesive defensive line for most of the first half. Shortly before half time Lewis Gibbons switched with Ihsan Rahman. Some good expansive play led to Lewis Mclean touching down just before half time. Ellon again scored but failed to convert, half time score 4 – 14.
The second half got underway and GCC seemed to find their feet and steady the ship, some of last week’s confidence returned and tries were scored by Archie Lennox, Thomas Ewan and a penalty try was awarded for a high tackle. GCC attack improved, however too many steps inside slowdown the attack speed and allowed for easy tackles for the home side. In defence GCC need to work on coming up as once wall of defence rather than individuals leaving holes in the defensive line. Players were also slow to support the breakthrough which led to compromised rucking technique. No doubt a few of the players were feeling a little fatigued after playing 2 games in 2 days. There was however a fine try after Dylan Lennox ran straight up the middle to link with Alex Carton on the right wing. Well done to Adam Wright who became a front row union member today for the first time. Also well done to Arron for taking on the fullback role for the first time.
There were quite a few players asked to do different roles and positions today and everyone did what was asked of them with great spirit – great attitude! Final Score 14- 22
