Aberdeen Wanderers RFC Win Shield

U16's Squad won the Shield at the inaugural RGC 7's tournament on Saturday.
Fantastic event hosted by RGC at Countesswells that benefitted from some bright spring weather that encouraged open and fast 7's action.
Aberdeen Wanderers entered squads at U15 & U16.
Wanderers were drawn against some serious competition in the form of schools that had already been competing on the 7's circuit for the past 4 weeks such as Dollar Academy, Lathallan, High School of Dundee, St Leonards, Stewart Melvilles, as well as club sides Deeside, Aberdeen Grammar & Dunfermline.
Whilst this was Wanderers 1st 7's of the season, with training in the run-up having been severely hampered by recent wet weather conditions.
Both squads performed well though and ran in some excellent tries with the U16's going on to lift the Shield trophy.
Comments from U16 coach Ian:
"they played some amazing rugby and deservedly won the shield final against Deeside. They set the tone from the start with their performance against Dollar Academy and continued it all the way through the tournament, the effort they all put in throughout the day was great. We scored some amazing tries, and also had the desire to make some last ditch tackles. They've trained hard this season and improved throughout the year so it's good to see they have something to show for it."
