The Introduction to Match Officiating course is the first step on Scottish Rugby’s Match Officiating pathway and aims to equip match officials with fundamental refereeing skills and tools for the Youth and Adult game.
By the end of the programme, you will:
• Understand the fundamental refereeing skills
• Be able to apply the essential laws of the game
• Promote player welfare and manage player behaviours during a game
• Appreciate the principles of refereeing
How does the course work?
To complete the course, candidates will need to complete the following:
• The World Rugby Laws Exam which can be accessed here https://passport.world.rugby/laws-of-the-game/laws-of-the-game-exam (must be completed).
• The online part of the Introduction to Match Officiating Course – 3 modules accessible once you sign up for the course
• The 3-hour practical face-to-face part of the Introduction to Match Officiating Course
Entry requirements
Match Officials must be minimum 15 years of age to complete the course.
Qualification
Match Officials will receive an Introduction to Match Officiating course qualification.

There is no formal asssessment for this course.
