During research it was discovered that two players lost their lives during World War 2:
Alexander Burnett Hutchison was killed on the 20th of May 1942 aged 23 years serving in the RAF. He was the Aberdeen Wanderers captain from 1937 to 1940.
John Alexander Barrie Jamieson was killed on the 19th of August in 1941 aged 19 years also serving in the RAF. He was a scrum half in the 1938-1939 season.
Both attended Aberdeen Grammar School and Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh. They are remembered on plaques in both schools.
In order to remember their sacrifice, a wreath and a profile of both players have been prepared and placed in the Wanderers clubhouse.
"Further research is being performed by the club to confirm if any other players from that era died in World War 2. There are plans to have a memorial within the club once the research is complete."
