Aberdeen Wanderers RFC have been asked to compete in the BT Caledonia League Division One for the 2016/17 due to a slot opening up.

At the end of last season Aberdeen Wanderers, runners up of the BT Caledonia League Division Two (North), played Harris RFC, runners up of the BT Caledonia League Division Two (Midlands) in an exciting playoff for a slot in Division one, however Harris pip’d Aberdeen Wanderers to get the league position.

However, over the last 24 hours, Aberdeen Wanderers have been asked to enter the league due to a reshuffle.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us at Aberdeen Wanderers”, says Jake Watt 1st XV captain. “This gives the club the ability to play both competitive rugby in Caley One with our 1st XV and participation rugby in the North Caley Leagues for our 2nd XV. It’s definitely rugby for all at Aberdeen Wanderers RFC”

Fixtures

The club are now working with the SRU on their new fixtures list, which will Aberdeen Wanderers play teams such as Mackie, Glenrothes, Caithness, Gordonians and Dunfermline in the league.

Aberdeen Wanderers RFC club president Bernard Mullins said: “Across the club, we have had an amazing year. Historically, we have always been open to all and are an inclusive club. You can see the amount of work we have done to the area and it’s paying dividends.”

Youth Rugby

As well as our 1st and 2nd XV, Aberdeen Wanderers has a thriving youth section with teams from U13 and above in the Club Red Conference league and a large mini and micros section for primary aged children.

Girls Rugby as Well

Aberdeen Wanderers also started a girls section last year, for females players of secondary school age as well as working with the SRU in developing the Grampian Girls Rugby Hub and are looking to increase participation in this area.

Aberdeen Wanderers RFC has also been nominated as Club of the Year in Sport Aberdeen’s up and coming Sports Awards.
