Tough first game - but lots to work on

Result: lost. Down 8 converted tries to zero by half time so the second half was a development game.
All in all, a good first test thought. Considering it was the first game, there was lots of good stuff and some things to work on. Ellon were clearly the stronger team (a few taller and more frequent shaving then me!) but had had the luxury of 3 games prior to today. Starting off running uphill against the wind didnt make it easy for us either.
Apologies for the fractured start but someone seems to have taken our balls, teamsheets are a time consuming nightmare until everyone is registered properly and someone left our shirts at home. Thanks to Andrew Shearer for stepping in to help at the warmup.
At kick off perhaps guilty of rabbits and headlights at the start but tackling, ball distribution & retention, scrums & lineouts all improved with time. Most of the Ellon scores were due to them moving quick on turnover ball.
Aided by them having an extra player.
Second half was a 15aside development game (cut shorter in consideration of some who had played yesterday) and much more even despite Ellons 6 tries to GC’s 2 scoreline. Good to see effort by all right to the end. Pleasing to see it was more due to tired legs than heads going down. Will be good when we have everyone playing.

What went well:
1. Rucking
2. Running - right to the end
3. Passing along the backs
Things to work on:
1. Get to breakdown quicker; stay on feet
2. Run on to the ball at pace - run hard
3. Tackling - low

Man of the match: Lewis McLean - some outstanding 1on1 tackling
Scorers: none
Captain: Dylan Lennox
Injuries: Calum knee, Ihsan back, Archie chin
