The match started off with plenty of attacking play from both sides but Mackie scored first to give them an early lead, Granite City were being stretched defensively but got their first score after 16 minutes when a quick 22m restart resulted in Leo Peerless latching on to the kick to level the scores. Just 5 minutes later Finlay MacLean gave Granite City the lead when he made a strong run beating 3 Mackie defenders to score under the posts, unfortunately this would be the last time Granite City would hold the lead with Mackie scoring 2 late tries to take a 10-7 lead into the break.
The second half was a frustrating one with a continuous stream of penalties for Mackie and poor handling meaning we had to defend for long periods, even when we created opportunities we failed to execute and eventually the lack of possession eventually took its toll with Mackie scoring 3 tries in the second half to come out 21-7 winners
