With only 15 players available for this match everyone knew they would need to put in a big shift to beat a good Deeside/Garioch team and that’s exactly what they did, working hard for the whole and coming out 14-11 winners.

With only 4 minutes on the clock Granite City opened the scoring with Finlay MacLean scoring out wide off the back of a quick tap penalty, Matthew Deans conversation agonisingly rebounded off the post. Granite City extended their lead after 18 minutes when Finlay MacLean got his second try of the match when he ran through 5 defenders to score the try, a conversion from Ben McGregor gave Granite City a 7 point lead at the break.

The second period was a tighter affair with lots of stoppages for penalties with Deeside/Garioch managing to score the only try of the period, when from a scrum they were able to break through the midfield defence to score a soft try.

Granite City scored early in the third period from a line out in the Deeside/Garioch 22 which was passed out to the other wing before Johnny Cadden made a strong run through the middle and passed to Finlay Smeaton to score the try after 42 minutes. Deeside/Garioch hit back within 2 minutes after controlling possession from the restart before scoring out wide to get within 3 points. Granite City didn’t have to wait long to score again with Finlay Smeaton doing an audacious through the leg pass to Jack Marlow who dived over the line to score a decisive try which was converted by Ben McGregor, even though Deeside/Garioch scored a late try Granite City held on for a deserved victory.
