Aberdeen Wanderers first XV learn a lot against Strathmore RFC in their final preseason friendly

The 20th of August saw the final preseason friendly game for Aberdeen Wanderers RFC. It was an excellent day for rugby and all four quarters of the game were played at excellent pace. They took a total of thirty boys down with them for this development match against Strathmore.

The first quarter demonstrated outstanding physical play from the boys, but no points were scored from either side. The second quarter established some points for Wanderers on the score board, with a try scored by full back Peter McDonald. Through converting his own try he was the only Wanderer to gain points at this tough game.

The final two quarters saw no more points for the Wanderers’ side, however they demonstrated some amazing hits from both forwards and backs. Although the final score was 19 points to 7, the boys left the pitch with their heads held high as they knew that there was some very high-quality rugby played. The Strathmore coach commended Aberdeen Wanderers on their attack and defence, as well as their physicality throughout the whole game. They boys say they have learnt a lot from this game and they are excited for the season ahead; with the first league game next week at Groats Road.

Head coach Russel Arthur comments “I was very happy with the overall performance and the lessons learned will help us focus on our preparation for the upcoming game against Garioch in the league opener next Saturday.”
