Wands U18's finish the league on a high

Wands U18's finish the league on a high with victory over Gordonstoun at Groats Road. From kick-off it was clear that the team were playing with a level of intensity that Gordonstoun were going to struggle with. They were able to play with a discipline and structure that kept the visitors on the back foot for most of the match. The forwards pressure was immense, dominating the scrum yet again, stealing turnovers at the breakdown and going forward we were making yards almost every time. The back were looking slick, making smart decisions, finding gaps, getting over the gain line, securing ball and consolidating territory. Defensively we took control of the game, making tackles on our terms and driving Gordonstoun back almost every time. The team work, commitment and intensity never dropped, which resulted in Wands dominating territory for most of the match. Gordonstoun showed no lack of commitment and determination but the Wands performance meant they were not able to secure enough possession or territory to create any opportunities.
Gabe Liddle scored the first try, forcing his way over from short range, but was unable to make the conversion (5-0). Following more time spent in Gordonstoun's 22 and continuing forward pressure, Kieran Cochran scored the second try, again forcing his way over from a couple of meters out (10-0). This time the conversion was successfully kicked by Lam Rongonui (12-0). There was no further scoring in the first half. At the start of the second half Gordonstoun came out with renewed intensity, but this was matched by Wands who kept their level high and started to reassert their dominance. A penalty from Lam Rongunui stretched our lead (15-0) and took us over two converted tries ahead. Scott Byars had a few opportunities during the match but it wasn't until about midway through the second half that he was able to take advantage of some space to fly in for our third try (20-0). Unfortunately the conversion was unsuccessful. Towards the end of the game Gordonstoun pressed hard looking to get on the scoreboard, but the Wands defence stood firm and were able to see out the remainder of the match without conceding any points, final score 20-0.
Credit to everyone for their performance in this match, which was enjoyable and entertaining to watch with great rugby being played.
