Wanderers U18 win away at Mackie in a match that saw Mackie pressing hard at the end of the game. In the first half Wanderers played some great rugby, finding and exploiting space with some great support play. Within 15 minutes we were 0-12 up through tries by Scott Byars and itti Sutthikorn, and a conversion by Gavin Rooneys. Wands continued to play good rugby but Mackie also had their opportunities. Two more Wands tries by Michael McCall and Gabe Liddle, and two Mackie tries saw the half-time score at 10-22. The second half started well for Wands, with two early tries by Guy Davis and James Plender and one further conversion by Gavin Rooneys saw the score at 10-34 to Wands. At this point the tables started to turn. Perhaps through having a healthy lead and easing off or a second wind for Mackie, or a combination of both, but Mackie began to pile on the pressure. Three tries and two conversions saw the score come to 29-34 at the final whistle. A great credit to Mackie for coming back and pushing us so close, but just as much credit and more to our boys for playing exciting, positive rugby, accumulating the lead that they did and holding out at the end.
