U18's defeat Perthshire

The U18's winning form continues against Perthshire today at Groats Road. Perthshire arrived under strength, but not under committed! They competed well from start to finish and made Wands work hard for their victory. Although Wands had the majority of the territory and possession, the first half was very closely contested, with mistakes at crucial moments and about to finish when Wands were able to get over the line through Michael McCall and finish the half 7-0. About 10 minutes into the second half saw Scott Byars score another converted try to take the score out to 14-0 and ease the pressure on ourselves a bit. The Wands scrum was functioning well throughout, with a number of strikes against the head, until the scrums went uncontested due to an injury. Further pressure, good play and a further try apiece from Scott Byars and Michael McCall took the score to 24-0. Towards the end of the game there was an extended period of Wands pressure on the Perthshire line but we were unable to take advantage. Both teams commitment was typified in the last play of the game when Perthshire broke through and almost scored in the corner, but a great cover tackle put them in touch and the game ended without further scoring, 24-0. Thanks to Perthshire for coming up today, but well done to Wands for getting the win!!!
