Wanderers at Mackie

Strong Wanderers Performance across all age groups
Another fun outing at Mackie RFC's annual tournament at Stonehaven.
Wanderers had entered 2 x Micro's teams, 1 x P4, 1 x P5, 2 x P6 and combined with Aberdeen Grammar to field a P7 team.
All age groups performed well, strong outing from P4 & P5 who got the opportunity to play against McLaren who had traveled all the way from Callander, as well as the usual local suspects from Deeside, Garioch, Grammar and Mackie.
Both P6 teams showed some great individual skills, Wanderers 1 improved with every match and scored some fantastic tries to stay competitive in all games, they were unlucky not to win any off their matches, but showed great strength of character to keep challenging to the final whistle.
Wanderers 2 also showed great spirit to fight through to the final with no subs, the Final was a very close affair v Deeside, Wanderers 2 bravely battling back from a 5 v 2 deficit to tie 5 x 5 at the normal time whistle, competition rules stated the final was then to be decided by a "Golden try" format. Deeside who were due to have the advantage of kicking off, then very sportingly agreed to 2 mins each way extra time period and it was Wanderers that scored next and went on to win!
Due to the long holiday weekend the P7 Wanderers / Grammar team were lacking some players, however the Wands and Grammar guys continued to combine well and played some great rugby with a couple of players claiming their first tournament tries (very well deserved).
All players to be congratulated for persevering in some difficult conditions, the cold and wind made accurate passing very difficult, it was so windy at one point a tent got airborne and was blown clear across the field only to be stopped by an unfortunate spectators car. Thanks to all parents / spectators that braved the conditions and cheered the guys on, especially good to see the team spirit amongst the wider Wanderers Squad with players form each team / age group watching and cheering on the others when they weren't playing themselves.
Looking forward to next Saturday at Deeside!
