This weekend is anticipated to be both exciting and busy for the youth section at Aberdeen Wanderers RFC. With three Granite City Rugby teams heading down to St. Andrews on Sunday the 29th in order to compete in various finals of the Caledonia Cup. Although each age group has worked immensely hard in order to achieve a place in the finals, all the boys know that they are about to face a tough set of games in order to bring home the prize.

The Under 15s will be first to kick off on the day. They will be competing in the U15 Bowl Final where they will be facing Dunfermline RFC at 11:30am. This is likely to be a really demanding game for the boys, as they have not received as much game time as the older members of Granite City Rugby this season. However, we all have faith that they will succeed.

At the same time as the aforementioned Under 15s, the Granite City Rugby Under 18s will be kicking off the U18 Shield Final against Orkney/Caithness. This is again predicted to be a physical and hard-hitting game, but due to the team’s track record, we believe they have it in them to take home the prize.

The final competition Granite City Rugby game of the season will kick off at 1:30pm, when the under 16s will face Highland RFC in the U16 Caledonia Cup Final. We are exceptionally proud of the boys for reaching this position, as we know it has not been an easy journey for them. After only completing their nail-biting Semi Final last week, they have not had much time to prepare for what could be their most challenging and demanding game yet. However, after witnessing their performance last week, we have high hopes for the boys and have confidence that they will triumph on Sunday.

Granite City Rugby is a combined effort of Aberdeen Wanderers and Aberdeen Grammar rugby clubs working together to develop youth rugby in the City of Aberdeen. The five youth teams, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 has recently taken part in the Club Youth - Lancer Conference which saw the teams play against Dundee Rugby, Ellon, Gordonstoun School, Mackie and Perthshire twice before Christmas.
