Following on from coming second on the Scottish Rugby's Club Youth - Lancer Conference, the Granite City Under 16s rugby team qualified for the National Youth League Under 16 Cup. The team were due to play Peebles Under 16s on Sunday (14th Jan) in the preliminary round, however, Peebles conceded the game allowing the team from the Granite City to go straight into the quarter final stages of the SRU national competition.

The draw took place today (Monday) and the team will travel down to Edinburgh to play Boroughmuir Under 16s in the Quarter Final Tie 1 on Sunday 21st January.

"This is a huge achievement for the guys and speaking for them and the other fellow coaches is an honour." says Shaun Liddle, Granite City Under 16s head coach, "I do not fear any opposition with this group of players. They are a very determined and talented group of individual's who have managed to bring their own talents to the fore and play as a truly fantastic team.

When they play, the spectators truly witness a magnificent display of rugby skills that they now own as theirs.

The team are having fun and making their own memories. This is what we wish to give the lads, the memories that they make and they can look back on in years to come.

I firmly believe that we can go to Edinburgh and win this contest and move onto the next round. Fresh opposition is welcomed.

We will prepare as normal and maintain our high level of work rate and relish the challenge that awaits.

There is absoultley no reason why these lads can't push all the way to a game in the final.

Only they can change a games outcome on game day, which we have seen in the past when we all step up"

The game is scheduled to be played at Meggetland Sports Complex, Edinburgh and Kick off will be at 14:00. If you are interested in coming down to support the boys, let us know.

Granite City Rugby is a combined effort of Aberdeen Wanderers and Aberdeen Grammar rugby clubs working together to develop youth rugby in the City of Aberdeen. The five youth teams, Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 has recently taken part in the Club Youth - Lancer Conference which saw the teams play against Dundee Rugby, Ellon, Gordonstoun School, Mackie and Perthshire twice before Christmas.
