Aberdeen Wanderers host Glasgow Warriors summer camp for young warriors

The Jason White Pavilion has provided the home ground for the Glasgow Warriors’ young warriors camp over the 19th and 20th of July. Over the past two days, more than seventy young boys and girls have been working hard to improve their rugby skills and learn what it takes to become a Warrior. Coached by a variety of Warriors’ coaches, the players exerted themselves through rain and shine, developing their skills in many areas of rugby.

Day one consisted of the beaming sunshine, with many spectators watching the drills and rugby based games taught by the specialist coaches that travelled up from Glasgow. The day’s camp was followed by a barbeque provided by the volunteers from Aberdeen Wanderers. The heat combined with the intense drills and exercises drained the energy from all the young players, however they all went home excited to return to Groats Road for another fun day of camp.

The weather had completely changed overnight, with thunder in the morning followed by outbursts of torrential rain throughout the afternoon. The players fought through another great day of training, and after experienced a special appearance from professional players Matt Smith and Adam Ashe. These players took a question and answer session with each of the age groups throughout the afternoon. Plus, to add to the excitement, Ex-Aberdeen Wanderer George Hunter popped by to say hello. After the day was over, each player received a gift bag from the Warriors to congratulate their efforts throughout the camp.

Aberdeen Wanderers would like to thank the Glasgow Warriors Community Team for running their camp at our ground. Also, we appreciate the support from Aberdeen Wanderers RFC club members such as 1st XV Captain Jake Watt; Club First Aid Convenor Alison Forsyth; and many committee members and Under 18 players. Without the help from these people, Aberdeen Wanderers would not be able to host such successful events as this one.

Pictures from the days can be found here.
