Both current and former players from Westhill Academy play in a Festival of rugby at Westdyke, Westhill.

Sunday 16th April saw a festival of rugby in Westhill to celebrate "Smeats Day".

Ewan Smeaton has been the rugby champion at Westhill Academy for 10 years and to celebrate this event, four games of rugby were hosted at the Westdyke pitch in Westhill. As well as celebrating the past 10 years, it was also a leaving event for Mr Smeaton as he is moving to a new role in Kemnay Academy after the Easter break.

The day started with an Under 14s game being played between the current Westhill Academy S1/2 team and an Aberdeen Wanderers team, while the Westhill Academy S3/4 team played the Aberdeen Wanderers Under 15s in a 10-a-side friendly. No scores were kept, as these games were about the spirit of rugby rather than winning. However both games were closely contested and there was great rugby played by all four teams.

The next game was Westhill Academy S5/6s against Aberdeen Wanderers Under 18s and again this was a thrilling game.

The final game of the day was a Westhill Academy FPs game which saw former players from Westhill Academy play against each other in a friendly game. This game saw Mr Smeaton come onto the pitch for a short while so show his former pupils that he still had it.

Following the games, food and refreshments were available for the players and spectators, plus a large cake!

Aberdeen Wanderers would like to thank Ewan Smeaton for all the rugby development he has led at Westhill Academy over the last 10 years, as we have seen many new players come to the club via Ewan's rugby sessions.
