National Girls Club Cup – North Qualifier Round Up

Grampian Girls Under 15s and Under 18s in action in the North Qualifier

Today saw the Grampian Girls Under 15s and Under 18s teams play in the National Girls Club Cup – North Qualifier at Woodside in Aberdeen. The competition, organised by Scottish Rugby, is open to teams throughout Scotland, however, regional qualification rounds took place through the weekend.

Under 18s

The Grampian Girls Under 18s played Caithness Under 18s in a game, which saw a total of 32 girls get involved in the sport. To ensure is was a competitive fixture, the teams were mixed up, however the overall winner was Grampian Girls beating the visiting team 27 points to 10. Joint Grampian Girls coach John McCluskey said “Well done to all the Girls involved today. Excellent attitude throughout and some really good play.”

Once all the regional qualifiers have been completed, the draw will be made for the next round which will be played in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, the girls will continue to train to prepare for the next fixture.

Under 15s

The Under 15s North qualifier involved a round robin tournament between Grampian Girls, Howe of Fife Girls and Caithness Girls. The first game was between Grampian Girls and Howe of Fife, which saw the Grampian Girls win 19 points to 15. The next was Caithness against Howe of Fife, which ended in a 75 to nil to Caithness Under 15s. And the final game of the day saw Grampian Girls lose to Caithness - 36 points to 17.

These results will be fed back to the competition administers and the next round will be drawn shortly.

Grampian Girls Rugby

Grampian Girls is made up of female players from Aberdeen Wanderers RFC, Angus Girls, Banff RFC, Deeside RFC, Ellon Rugby, Garioch RFC and Huntly RFC to form teams at both Under-15 and Under-18.

The girls meet up regularly for joint training sessions at the Aberdeen Sports Village as well as train at their own clubs. These Grampian Girls Hub sessions, are open to existing players and new players that are interested in rugby and the next session is on Wednesday 1st March 2017 between 7:00 and 9:00pm at the ASV.
