The Grampian Girls Under 15s and Under 18s are back in action in Semi Finals of the National Girls Club Competition

Sunday 9th April sees the both the Grampian Girls teams play in the next round of the National Girls Club Competition in Aberdeen.

Teams from all around Scotland were invited to enter Scottish Rugby’s National Girls Club Cup competition earlier this year and then qualifying matches were played for teams to progress further. This Sunday sees the semi-finals of the Cup and Shield competitions take place and the Grampian Girls teams were drawn home games.

Under 15s

The Under 15s meet a traveling Biggar Under 15s team at 2:00pm in the Semi Final of the Cup Competition. It’s the first year that the Grampian Girls have entered a Under 15s team into this competition and the girls are really excited to be in the cup semi-final. The team, which features players from the North East clubs, are looking forward to playing this fixture in Aberdeen and are hoping to see a large numbers of supporters on the side line at Aberdeen Wanderers ground, on Groats Road, Aberdeen.

Under 18s

The Under 18 match will kick off after the Under 15s game at 3:15pm, again at Groats Road. The Grampian squad will meet Annan Under 18s in the semi-final of the shield competition. Last year the Under 18s, who played under the Ellon RFC name in the SRU competition, made it to the shield final in Murrayfield where they were runners-up. This year the girls are looking to do one better and pick up the shield on finals day.

The other semi-final in the Under 15 Cup is between Cartha Queens Park and Stirling County, while the Under 18s Shield semi-final is between Cartha Queens Park and Midlothian.

This year the finals will be held in Scotstoun, home to the Pro 12 team Glasgow Warriors, on Saturday 29th April 2017 and we are hoping to have the two Grampian Girls playing there on that day.

"Aberdeen Wanderers RFC are pleased to host these semi-final games in Aberdeen this weekend and wish all the girls good luck in their games", said Russell Arthur, joint head coach of Aberdeen Wanderers senior teams. "It's fantastic to see the girls game developing in this region and these girls getting some competitive game time."

If you are free, why not come down to Groats Road on Sunday and support the girls? Everyone is welcome.
