12 club volunteers attend a National Sports First Aid course

On 30th October, twelve members of Aberdeen Wanderers attended a National Sports First Aid course in Aberdeen. The course was delivered by David Davies, first aid instructor with NSFA and First Aid Convener at Howe of Fife RFC.

All aspects of first aid in sport were covered from concussion management, trauma, various medical conditions, CPR and defibrillator training to event management and legal responsibilities.

David delivered the course in his own very distinctive and enthusiastic style; this included first aid scenarios where participants had to deal with given medical emergencies. There were also plenty of other hands-on situations where effective leadership and teamwork were essential.

Scenarios and resuscitation practicals were all assessed, and a final examination was taken at the end.

All in all, this was a highly successful day which now means that the club has 22 registered first aiders in total.

Sincere thanks must go to David, and also to Guy Mullinor and ConocoPhillips for arranging such great facilities for the course.
