Club History

In 1928 a new club formed called Aberdeen Engineers RFC which later changed its name to Aberdeen Wanderers in 1934.

At the time, Wanderers was one of the first teams to be open to any person not permanently based in the city for membership. Previous city clubs were closed with membership only open to former pupils of a school or University

In 1948 Aberdeen Centralians RFC was formed for Former Pupils of an Aberdeen Central School, which later became Aberdeen Academy and consequently changed its name to Aberdeen Academicals RFC.

In 1971 Wanderers and Academicals merged to become Wanderers Accies and in 1991 another local side, Granite City RFC, merged with Wanderers Accies, and the Club reverted back to its former name Aberdeen Wanderers RFC.

The Youth Section was started in 1991, and has constantly grown over the years. Consequently, a number of Aberdeen Wanderers Youth Players have been selected for the North & Caledonia District Representative Squads.

The most notable success of the Youth Section has been Jason White who has not only played and captained the Scottish Schools, Scotland Under 19 and Scotland Under 21 sides, but has also captained the Scotland National team. He won his first full Scotland Cap in 2000, and now has more than 50 under his belt. He first Captained the National team against Argentina at Murrayfield on November 12th, 2005 and has since been voted Scotland Player of the Season 2005-06 and English Premierships player's player of the year for the same season. He continues to support Aberdeen Wanderers.
